German Mittelstand GCC Office Builds Educational Partnerships in Applied Sciences and EdTech

The German Mittelstand GCC Office (BVMW), in collaboration with the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Doha, and the German School Doha, successfully hosted the "German School Presentation Day" at the UDST campus on 21 May 2026. The event brought together students, parents, educators, diplomats, and industry representatives to celebrate student achievement and strengthen educational cooperation between Germany and Qatar.

German School Doha students presented their internship experiences and personal reflections, offering valuable insight into the role of practical exposure in shaping future academic and professional pathways — a core element of the applied-learning philosophy that increasingly connects German and Qatari institutions.

The programme opened with welcome remarks from senior representatives of the participating institutions, including Mr. Christian Schwippert, Managing Director of the BVMW German Mittelstand GCC Office; Mr. Olaf Malchow, Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Doha; Mr. Fahad Al Hajri, Vice President for Student Affairs at UDST; and Mr. Kai Darmstädter, Principal of German School Doha. A special student address by Mr. Mubarak Al Nasser inspired attendees by emphasizing the importance of internships, innovation, and international learning experiences in preparing young people for the future workforce.

As part of the event, UDST delivered an institutional presentation introducing its academic programmes, applied-learning approach, and opportunities available for prospective students. Guests also participated in a guided campus tour covering the College of Engineering and Technology, the College of Computing and Information Technology, and the university's student facilities and campus life areas.

The initiative reflects the growing collaboration between German and Qatari institutions in advancing applied education, innovation, and youth development. By bringing together academia, diplomacy, and industry stakeholders, the event created a platform that supports students in transitioning from school to higher education and future careers.

Mr. Nizar Maarouf, Liaison Director of the German Mittelstand GCC Office (BVMW), emphasized the importance of such events in supporting German-speaking Qatari youth, affirming that investing in the development of these talents is one of the greatest investments in the future of German–Qatari trade relations.

Beyond classical education, the German Mittelstand GCC Office is increasingly turning its attention to the EdTech sector. The Gulf region is investing heavily in the digitalization of education — from digital learning platforms and applied training technologies to solutions for professional qualification — opening a high-growth market for German SMEs in the education and technology space. Here too, the Office positions itself as a structured point of access, connecting German providers with the relevant stakeholders in Qatar and the wider Gulf region.
